As promised, I want to share more about what that delightful scene at the ballpark taught me. Only the Lord can use something so seemingly simple to impress SO much upon one heart. Rest was my first takeaway, but very soon after it came peace.

I must admit that over the past several months, this particular verse has repeatedly appeared in my reading, studying, and listening to the Word. To be completely honest, I’ve even seen it on shirts, postcards, and church walls—it’s been everywhere! So naturally, it came to mind that day.

What a wonderful promise—perfect peace! Isn’t it amazing that the Lord didn’t leave us guessing how to receive such a gift? It’s not a mystery. Perfect peace comes from a mind that is stayed (or fixed) on Jesus. And yes, I realize that the repetitive appearances of this verse mean I need the reminder – daily!

Before he caught my eye, I imagine this little one gathered his sippy cup, stuffed animal, and other belongings before climbing into his mama’s lap. Despite the chaos of the crowd, his mind was focused on one thing: her! He understood that, no matter where he was, he could find peace (and quiet—haha) in her embrace.

Ladies, how often are we like this child searching for peace amid chaos? To quote the familiar hymn, “Oh what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.”

I love how this hymn reminds us that WE often forfeit our peace because the truth is, it’s never more than a prayer away.

The idea that stirred my heart isn’t complex, nor are the questions it raises. Upon what are our thoughts fixated? Where are we searching for peace? … And when was the last time we gathered our “stuff”, our burdens, and rested in the perfect peace our Abba Father promises?

Call unto Him today. He’s waiting to show you great and mighty things.

Be steadfast, unmovable, and always abounding, dear friends!
