This isn’t the blog I intended to share today, but it’s not the first time the Lord’s changed my plans.

This weekend, our pastor preached on Luke 15:1-10. It reminded me of something a dear pastor friend said years ago: “Do for one as you would for one hundred.” The Lord has often reminded me that my passion, excitement, obedience, and faithfulness shouldn’t depend on the number of people involved. Every individual matters just as much as the “multitude”.

If you’re able, turn to that passage in your Bible and note the number of times the word “one,” or a term referring to a singular amount, is mentioned.

Let me encourage you: Jesus often focused on just one. As our pastor mentioned, “He doesn’t see numbers; He sees individual souls.” He showed up repeatedly for the one. Remember the woman at the well, the blind man, and the lady with the issue of blood
…and let’s not forget heaven rejoices over one sinner coming to repentance. (vs 7) Praise the Lord, when I was that one, He saved me!

He is so very personal.
We can see this also in the twenty-third Psalm. Read through that today and insert your name everywhere there is a personal pronoun. You’ll be amazed!

Though this principle is true no matter the size of your ministry, I have a special place in my heart for those called to small, seemingly unknown places. God bless you all. Know that He sees you there. If that’s where He has led you, He is pleased with you. Your heart is likely never more like your Shepherd’s than right now. And make no mistake, He is with you!

Be encouraged, for though He showed up for just one, those passages often end with many believing. (for example, see John 4:39-42; 11:45)

None of us may ever know, this side of eternity, the impact of our obedience or faithfulness. It is for this reason, fellow laborer, we encourage you through these words of scripture: “be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord“. (1 Corinthians 15:58)
