I’ve shared on social media that the study by Crystal Ratcliff, titled “It’s Time,” has been a blessing to me. The most challenging chapter for me was on restoration and examined the Biblical account of Naomi and Ruth, focusing on Naomi’s journey from backslidden to repentant and finally restored.

In this chapter, Mrs. Ratcliff powerfully articulates the concept of generational sin, stating in part, “Your decisions affect your children and their futures” (Ratcliff, It’s Time, pg 29). Also, mentioning that we can’t go our own way for any length of time without consequence. While this idea may seem simple at first glance, and you might even say to yourself, “Well, yeah, of course that’s true!” My question is, do we live like we believe it’s the truth? Or, as my husband would say, “Are we all talk and no walk?” Do we realize the ripple effect of sin? Beloved, the choices we make today are significant and will resonate in the hearts of our children as they grow. Recently, I heard someone say, “What one generation considers optional, the next generation will consider unnecessary.” Wow, I cannot unhear that.

Mamas, it’s important to keep this in mind: the activities and commitments we view as optional or nonessential may be seen by our children as unnecessary or, even more concerning, invaluable. Let me clarify—this includes things like church services, prayer, Bible study, and the like. So, what message are you conveying by your actions about what truly matters?

Fellow ministry wives, let this be a topic you are comfortable addressing in your church. Let us not shy away from exhorting one another, and so much the more as we see the day approaching, amen? (Hebrews 10:25) Reach out to that family whom you haven’t seen lately. Encourage Mamas to be in their place for services this week. It matters!

This task is challenging, ladies, but praise God for giving us Mama friends for the journey. Together, may we be found steadfast, unmovable, and always abounding in the important work of the Lord: motherhood.
